Veteran actress Rita Edochie has shared strong views on married men maintaining close relationships with their exes or female friends, and this has caused a stir on social media.

The actress, known for her outspoken nature, has argued that a married man's only female best friend should be his wife.

She questioned the logic behind men staying in close contact with their ex-partners, stating that if they valued those relationships so much, they should have stayed with them.

In an Instagram post, she emphasised the importance of boundaries in marriage, advising men to focus on their wives after a breakup and avoid rekindling past relationships.

Speaking in pidgin, she wrote:

"The next thing now, una go begin talk second wife matter. As a married man, you dey keep female besties, your ex for that matter? If I talk now, una go say Ijele you dey worry. Imagine going back to your vomit. If you love and value your relationship with your ex, why you no marry am? Why drop her, call her your ex, marry another woman, then go back to relate with the same ex while still married to your wife?

"Have you thought about the mental and emotional stress it imposes on the women you lawfully wed? Hmmmmm. Just hmmm. Goat and yam no dey stay together, simple. This was how that other one came in with the colleague and bestie format. Why have a woman as your bestie or PA? Listen, as a married man, your only female bestie should be your wife," she continued.

She didn't stop there; she also addressed single women who claim to be "best friends" with married men.

"All these single ladies claiming besties to married men, all of una be side chicks to that man. You can't be with him, locked up alone in one room, and not do one or two... Nothing person wan tell me, biko."

Rita Edochie also called out the idea of an ex-partner visiting a married man's home to cook for him, expressing frustration with the situation.

"Imagine your ex visiting your matrimonial home to cook for you as a married man. Haba, na ment? Ndi ala, I am so angry right now," she stated.

The actress' bold statements have since sparked heated discussions on social media, with many agreeing with her perspective while others have criticised her for being too rigid in her views on relationships and marriage.
