Metro TV launches DStv channel

Accra, April 1, GNA- Metro TV, a private television station in Accra, on Friday launched a new DStv satellite channel that would provide viewers a unique opportunity to view international programmes extensively.

The innovation, which is a deal between Metro TV and MultiChoice of South Africa would be located on Channel 105 on DStv'. It would also facilitate the transmission of Metro TV programmes across Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

Mr Talal Fatal, Chief Executive Officer of Metro TV who launched the channel said currently Metro TV was the only local station broadcasting on digital equipment in conformity with the International Telecommunication Council standards.

Mr Fatal noted that the huge investment in expansion works had facilitated a 24-hour TV broadcast on the station. Ms Shirley Botchwey, Deputy Minister of Information commended Metro TV for the expansion drive.

She said the collaboration between Metro TV and Multi Choice was "a great beginning for regional integration and international cooperation". The Deputy Information Minister said the pioneering role of Metro TV should challenge its competitors and other entrepreneurs to boost investments.

The South Africa High Commissioner, Mr Rapalane Molekane said 40 South African companies have registered with Ghana Promotion Centre with over 90 million dollar capita inflow.

He said Ghana was a strategic business partner to South Africa and expressed the hope that new frontiers would be identified for accelerated investment to enhance bilateral relations.
