Ms. Rachel Ama Djan, the 2016 Queen of the Miss Ghana UK Beauty pageant, is currently in Ghana to embark on social responsibility projects.
The reigning Queen is in the country to undertake activities of the Miss Ghana UK Foundation in the areas of education, health and social development particularly ‘galamsey.’ She is scheduled to meet and work with key stakeholders to sensitize the youth on various subjects including education and other issues of national concern.
“Following recent developments across the country with regards to the galamsey menace which can be perfectly described as a national security concern, I think it is important for us to all add our voices and in our own small way contribute to ensuring this becomes a thing of the past.
It is not only destroying our society, but the human capital needed by the country to develop”, Ms Djan said.
Another sector the Miss Ghana UK Foundation has been actively involved is education. Over the years, the organisation has had a lot of engagement with its strategic partners and undertaken on its own series of activities aimed at bringing literacy to the citizenry.
“Sometimes, I ask myself how can I also impact the lives of people back in my home country. I think it is not just about what the government is doing but how we the public figures, role models, celebrities, opinion leaders, business leaders, religious leaders and others can also assist in diverse ways to help develop the educational sector and other sectors? For me, that is the way to go and it is very possible once we all stay focused and committed to the agenda”, she added.
