Miss Ghana USA organization marks 60 years of Ghana’s independence

The event which commenced with a Red-Carpet session begun with the contestants all adorned in rich Kente while dancing to traditional tunes to, leading to contemporary ones, to open the event.

The actual competition started after Hosts- Kwasi Beast &EfiaOdo made an endearing entrance to the Maestro- Mr. KojoAntwi’s “DadieAnoma” signifying the timeless essence of our archetypical music.

The swimsuit competition begun- with contestants’ attire provided by renowned fashion designer- NaaLamileyKouture- Ghana, followed by Traditional wear, then Talent, and Questioning and answer session.

U.S. based Ghanaian artists D-Fizzy, ExGee&Quodjoe had greatly-enthused performances, as a commendation part of the show, and for us to promote our own here in the diaspora.

To mark 60 years of Ghana’s independence, all contestants were decked in rich, affable Kente for their opening, and evening gown scenes- exhibiting the quality and awesome endowment of resources we have- in every sector- from fashion, to society-wise.

The judges did their outmost best, and in the end- Miss Lucy AdwoaOsei-PokuaaYeboah was crowned our 60th Independence Anniversary Queen (also Miss Ghana USA 2017) with Miss JanartAddo Fareed representing the Northern Region as the 1st Runner up, whiles Miss Elsie AbenaOkoh-Addo emerged as the 2nd Runner Up.



This year’s event was a show-stopper and definitely one for the books, as the organization had their first professional soccer-player- Ms. GiftyAyew as a contestant, and Ms. Sandra Amponsah who represented the Ashanti Region and was chosen by her pageant sisters as Miss Congeniality 2017 given a lovable speech without being able to hold back her tears.

For Peoples’ Choice- Brong-Ahafo Region rep- Ms.Jennifer Barimah took the title; however, prior to that, was in a tie-position with Nana Opoku-Mensah- Eastern Region rep who also won Miss Photogenic, as to who will be taken the 3rd Runner-Up &4th RU positions, respectively.

Additionally, a successful after-pageant celebration took place at Roof Top 760 in Manhattan New York, whereby a cake was cut in-honor of our independence anniversary and also to officially culminate the new Queen.

Each contestant took home a gift-bag package from the organization, as well as the winning team bagging crowns, sashes, authentic textiles- fabric &Kente, personal designer- Afua Sam of Studio DMaxsi& Royalty Designs, formerly known as “The Pink Outlet.”

The journey has just begun for our 2017 Queen, and we seek all the support and assistance we’ll need from well-wishers. Our sincere appreciation to everyone that made it to this year’s event and all that weren’t able to make it. It is our hope to see you next year, God willing.
