The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture on Monday, August 26, 2024, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mediterranean Tourism Foundation of Malta, marking a significant step in strengthening cultural and tourism ties between the two countries.

The MoU aims to foster collaboration in areas such as cultural exchange, tourism development, and investment opportunities.

The agreement reflects a mutual interest in leveraging tourism as a means of economic growth and cultural enrichment. Malta’s tourism significantly contributes to its GDP and offers valuable insights and opportunities for Ghana.

Through this partnership, both nations are expected to benefit from shared experiences, particularly in promoting sustainable tourism and cultural heritage.

This collaboration also aligns with broader initiatives to enhance Ghana's tourism infrastructure, including the renovation of historical sites and the promotion of creative arts as key economic drivers.

The MoU is part of Ghana's strategy to position itself as a leading cultural and tourism destination in Africa while also expanding its reach to Mediterranean countries.

Hon. Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mr. Mark Okraku-Mantey, who signed on behalf of the Government of Ghana at a brief ceremony at the Ghana High Commission in Valletta, Malta, expressed excitement that the two countries are collaborating to learn from each other. He was optimistic that the friendship between Malta and Ghana would continue to grow.

Mr. Andrew Agius Muscat, Secretary General of the Mediterranean Tourism Foundation, thanked the Ghanaian Government for the initiative and was hopeful that the ties would create opportunities for both countries to further develop their respective tourism and cultural sectors.

The event took place in Malta as part of activities marking the 10th Anniversary celebration of the establishment of the Ghana High Commission in Malta. Present at the brief ceremony were Mrs. Barbara Akuokor Benisa, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Malta, Mr. Divine Kwame Owusu-Ansah, Acting Director for Arts and Culture at the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Regina Appiah-Sam, Head of Chancery, and other officials of the Ghana High Commission in Malta.
