Money and beauty shouldn't be priorities before considering marriage - Counselor advises

Marriage counselor Rev. Mable Purity Germain has advised the youth not to rely on money and beauty as criteria when choosing a partner for marriage.

In an interview on UTV, Rev. Mable emphasised that marriages based on such factors often do not last.

She pointed out that challenges can arise, especially if the breadwinner loses their source of income, causing the financial drive that initially attracted the other partner to the marriage to disappear.

According to her, the youth should prioritise good character and a prayerful partner instead.

"When someone decides to settle down, the first question parents ask is the type of job the man does. But marriage shouldn't be all about money and beauty because these things can easily go away, and when they the marriage is easily broken," she said.

Rev. Mable also highlighted the importance of maturity in handling the challenges that marriage can present.

“There are many challenges associated with marriage. Therefore, before someone decides to marry, they should be prayerful, patient, and mature,” she added.

This comes on the back of Prophet Kumchacha’s claims that he would never marry a woman he considers unattractive.

He explained that men who marry women perceived as unattractive often struggle to attend social gatherings with them and may lack peace at home.

“I will never marry an ugly woman. As a man, before settling down, the beauty of the woman should count. I believe beauty should be 40 percent, while character should be 60 percent. Men who marry unattractive women often avoid social functions because they don't want to face ridicule,” he noted.
