Award – winning movie director Frank Fiifi Gharbin in an interview with Kasoa based radio station Pink 96.9 FM on the entertainment segment on their Drive time show last Wednesday, told Kwame Okyere Junior (KOJ) that popular movie director and producer Leila Djansi is a threat in the best director of the year category.

He said since the award started in 2010, Leila has always been a threat when it comes to the best director because she ends up picking the award home.

“The fact is, we are all educated in film making but some have advantage over others, strategically and technically. The kind of equipment, crew, editors and people around her gives her the advantage over some of us. She has financial support and where she stays in the United States also gives her the chance of getting access to a lot of things. To shoot a good movie, you need an amount of money and sophisticated equipment to shoot an award winning movie and she has access to all. Considering all the factors above, she has an upper hand over some of us being nominated in the same category and that makes her a threat to some of us,” he explained.

This year’s Nominees for the directing category were: Sala-Kobby Rana, Like Cotton Twines-Leila Djansi, Amakye and Dede-Kofi Asamoah, Black Monkey-Frank Gharbin, Children of the Mountain-Priscilla Anany.

“I have been nominated five times and won one as the best film director, local language in the first edition in 2010,” he concluded.
