Music Council of Ghana reschedules demonstration to August 14

The Music Council of Ghana has released a press statement indicating the rescheduled date for its upcoming demonstration aimed at addressing sensitive Issues in the music industry after a meeting with the Greater Accra Regional branch of the Ghana Police service to Thursday, August 14, 2014.

The two-week demonstration which was originally planned to take off on Thursday, July 31, 2014 to Thursday, August 14, 2014 had received a confirmed date from the Greater Accra Regional branch of the Ghana Police service to stage it on the new date.

The Music Council of Ghana’s upcoming demonstration includes affiliate music bodies like Veteran Musicians Association of Ghana (VEMAG), Association of Music Rights Owners (AMRO), Musicians and Dancers Association of Ghana (MUDAG), Professional Musicians Association of Ghana (PROMAG) and Composers and Authors of Music Association of Ghana (CAMAG).

According to the statement, they have been directed to use the traditional approved routes that are from Kwame Nkrumah Avenue to Adabraka, and then to Farisco Traffic Lights to TUC and end at Hearts of Oak Park.

The protest is to address musicians displeasure about the current impasse in the music industry including the current GHAMRO Court Ruling and the Formation of the Creative Industry Council by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Creative Arts and other sensitive issues.
