Musician Arrested For Fraud

The police have arrested Kaakyire Aboagye, 37, a self styled musician for fraud.

The musician, who is based in Odumase in the Sunyani West District of the Brong Ahafo Region, has been accused of defrauding some people in the area of GH¢30,000.00 under the pretext of recruiting them to join his band in Italy.

The Acting Brong Ahafo Regional Police Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent Saviour Ahiamadi, confirmed the arrest to the Crystal clear Lens recently.

According to him, in June this year, Aboagye approached one Atta Frempa, a resident in Nkoranza, and posed as a musician who could assist them travelled to Italy with his band to work on his new album. Convinced by Abogye, Atta gave him GH¢150.00 on demand to commence the processing of his travelling documents and thereafter he informed eight other people in the town (Nkoranza) about the deal.

Readily the eight people developed interest in the deal and met Aboagye in Sunyani, where he collected money from them under the pretext of sending them to Italy. ASP Ahiamadi said Aboagye pledged to deliver on his promise after collecting the money from them. He assured them by giving them a forged agreement bearing a signature of Sunyani-based lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen as a witness.

The suspect was arrested after his victims had blown his cover, the ASP said. He, however, said the suspect is currently helping in investigations of the matter.
