Presently the MUSIGA stands out as one of the most respected bodies, highly esteemed in the country, the African continent and the musical world. As a sign of appreciation for the untiring efforts of Alhaji Sidiku Buari, a cross section of musicians in the country have commended him for his immense contribution to uplift the image of the union.
During his reign as the MUSIGA boss, Sidiku Buari has travelled all over the world to attend seminars the lessons which he shares for the others to benefit. They disclosed that it is only during the admiration of the current leadership that the union?s image has been promoted to the other music unions within Africa and beyond. As well as working closely with the music unions within African countries, he has helped to provide all African artistes with an effective continent-wide marketing platform, to sell their works.
In a separate interview in Accra, the musicians noted that Sidiku Buari has been the only MUSIGA president who advocate for the need to set in place, a pro-active legal framework that would effectively protect intellectual property, for right owners to enjoy the fruits of labour. According to them, the leadership of MUSIGA has done a lot, and needs to be commended for the good work done for musicians.
The musicians noted further that during the leadership of Sidiku Buari, they have received royalties on more than five times under the previous leadership. They however, appealed to the government to assist the union in its fight against piracy, and support it in its activities so as to promote the music industry in the country. In a chat, the MUSIGA president attributed the cause of the plight of artistes to lack of good corporate government, which comes in the form of poor management skills such as lack of proper records-keeping techniques, transparency, accountability, good marketing strategies, as well as poor budgeting among others.
