Songstress and TV personality Deborah Vanessa has made public her interest in acting in Kumawood, the local Twi movie industry.
According to the “Uncle Obama Banana” crooner, her heart was in that industry and she has always wanted to act in Kumasi movies.
But, according to her, whenever she tells people in the industry about her aspiration, they don’t take her seriously. She said many of them often think she is joking about it.
But Deborah revealed that she is really serious about it. “My heart is in Kumawood but when I tell people like Nana Ama McBrown to connect me, they think I’m just fooling. But that’s where my heart is,” Deborah revealed.
She was speaking in an interview with Ebo on Empire FM in Takoradi when she made the revelation.
She was in Takoradi with actress Lydia Forson, her brother, Wanlov The Kubolor, and new actor Louie Lartey to premiere Lydia’s A Letter From Adam at the Takoradi Polytechnic.
Sister Deborah, as she is affectionately called, said she wanted to act in Kumahood because “I just like it. It is funny and because comedy is part of our culture. When I was not in Ghana I used to watch Agya Koo a lot. I like Liwin too. I like Nana Ama McBrown.”
Deborah remains one of the popular celebs around. She is known for her “Uncle Obama Banana” song.
Prior to the song, she had hosted Late Night Celebrity show on eTV and had also appeared in a number of music videos.
It is, however, the first time she has been heard talking about her passion for acting and announced that next year she may be appearing in a film titled Black Sunshine and directed by Akosua Adomah, last year’s Africa Movie Academy Awards Best Short film winner.
“Maybe next year I might be in a movie by director Akosua Adomah. It is called Black Sunshine. But apart from that I have done musicals. I am in Coz Moni 1 and 2. Then I did a cameo in the first Afia Schwarzenegger…But not actual movie,” she said.
