Ghanaian comic actor, Richard Owusu Asante popularly referred to as Kalybos has shared some very interesting insights as to how his career began when he made an appearance on Ghana’s most watched satire and talk show, Tonight with Nii Kpakpo Thompson last Friday on Viasat1.

Kalybos first featured in the hit series Kalybos Comedy Skits while in school, but moved on to feature in some successful movies such as Kalybos in China and quite recently Amakye and Dede.

Kalybos began his career as a cameraman but revealed that he was at first reluctant to take on the lead role in the comedy series but eventually took on the role when his producer and friend, Kofi Asamoah insisted otherwise.

Kofi Asamoah, who appeared on the show alongside Kalybos also disclosed that Kalybos’ acting career was “an accident.”

“We were in the same class and we also happen to be roommates. So when the idea came to do funny videos, he was my cameraman.

At the time, he was supposed to do the filming for that production but whoever was supposed to be the ‘Kalybos’ didn’t show up so the cameraman found himself as cast. That is how it all started,” Kofi Asamoah disclosed.

Adding to the story, Kalybos also stated, “Mostly I am behind the camera, and I mostly see actors do their thing, so I picked one or two things from it. So when he actually told me to come in front of the camera, I was amazed and was like massa, let’s find somebody else to do it.”

Kalybos recently graduated from the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) after a 4-year degree in Cinematography and was named the Best Student in his class.
