Derrick Osei Kuffour Prempeh, known as rapper Kofi Jamar, has disclosed that his fans believe he is the next Ghanaian artiste to win a Grammy award.

After releasing his hit single “Ekorso,” featuring Yaw Tog and YPee, which earned him nominations in seven categories at the 2021 edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Kofi Jamar shared that his fans have been flooding his direct messages (DM) with encouraging messages, assuring him that he is the one to take Ghana to the Grammys.

“A lot of motivation, people feel empowered by my songs. They feel like they see the future for me, so people are just hitting me up saying, ‘Yo! I feel like you are the next to take Ghana to the Grammys,’ and stuff like that. So, I am always inspired when I go into my DM,” Kofi Jamar said.

During an appearance on Just Being Us with MzGee, alongside his colleagues Thorsten Owusu Gyimah, popularly known as Yaw Tog, Malcolm Nuna, whose real name is Malcolm Nunana Hehetror, and Kweku Flick, born Andy Osei Sarfo, Kofi Jamar revealed that, unlike his colleague Kweku Flick, who receives a lot of explicit content in his DM, he mainly receives motivational messages from his fans.

“Nah! Maybe the ladies do not like me,” he responded humorously when asked why he doesn’t receive similar messages.

In affirmation of his fans’ belief, Kofi Jamar expressed confidence in his potential to earn recognition from the world’s most prestigious awards body.

MzGee: "They tell you; you are the next to take Ghana to the Grammys?"

Kofi Jamar: "Yes! And I believe that too."

MzGee: "You believe them or you know?"

Kofi Jamar: "I know… Even bigger than the Grammys."

"You are looking at one of the biggest superstars in the world," he added.

Kofi Jamar, who currently has a track titled “Wombom” featuring Kwesi Amewuga and Kofi Mole, along with some of his colleagues who rose to fame during the COVID era, is seen as part of the new face of drill music. Many of these artistes have been recognized with awards both locally and internationally, including among the Ghanaian diaspora.
