Veteran Musician Rex Omari Sarfo aka Rex Omar has revealed that his father sacked him from home because he wanted to pursue music.

He said, his father threw him onto the streets and was left to fend for himself just because he opted to do music against his dad’s wish of becoming a lawyer.

According to him, his father who was a medical doctor was strongly opposed to him pursuing music because he believed that he(Rex) will end up being irresponsible in life.

Rex Omar who’s currently the Chairman of Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO), told Bola Ray on Starr Chat on Starr FM that he remained unfazed by the treated meted out to him by his biological father but followed his heart desire by doing music for which he’s fulfilled in life.

“My father wanted me to become a lawyer, if go to secondary school he’ll push me to go to law school eventually, so the best thing for me was that, from Form four, I went to do my music. So actually he sacked me from home, because he wanted me to go to school to become a lawyer and I wanted to do music. He said…show me one person who has done music in Ghana and is living a comfortable life, then I’ll allow you. But I couldn’t. When I was in school I was crack, I know that if I’d gone to secondary school I wouldn’t have been the musician that I am. He would have pushed me to do law and it would have been a disaster.”

When asked if he has any regrets he responded, “never, I’m too happy, I’m happy I followed my heart. I was happy to have proven my daddy wrong, because he said I did music I wouldn’t be responsible, I’ll be a marijuana smoker, but I proved him wrong.”
