Renowned stage actor and voiceover artiste, Andrew Tandoh-Adote has shared how he was mistaken for an occultist by his peers in senior high school due to his introverted nature.

Opening up about his high school days on Talkertainment on GhanaWeb TV with host, Abrantepa, Tandoh-Adote revealed that he was a chronic introvert during his school years, often keeping to himself and making very few friends.

He shared that it took him until his third year to feel comfortable enough to joke and interact with his classmates. Prior to that, rumours circulated that he was involved in occult practices due to his reserved nature.

“It was only then that my mate began to open up to me, like, ‘We thought you were an occultist in form one because there are rumours that you wake up at midnight and sit on your bed and be chanting at the stroke of midnight’. No, I wasn't. Because of who I was, the kind of person they thought I was, people started making rumours about me, saying, ‘Is he an occultist?’ And these conversations were going on behind my back. So when we got to Form 3, they realized I was normal. It was very interesting.

Tandoh-Adote credited theatre with helping him become more sociable and comfortable in social settings. He stated that while he has learned to interact with people and be more outgoing, it still requires a conscious effort on his part.

“Theater forced me to interact with people, open up a bit more, be more sociable, and learn how to approach people, talk to them, ask questions, and things like that. So it's something I've learned. But unlike other people, I have to psych myself to say, Okay, I'm going to be this kind of person in this environment, and then I do it. Once I'm done, I kind of go back to my default,” he added.
