Chief Executive Officer for EIB Network, Nathaniel Kwabena Adisi popularly known in showbiz as BOLA RAY has disclosed that his parents never liked the idea of becoming a radio presenter after reading finance at the university.

Bola says he however insisted on doing radio because he had so much passion for the job.

Kwabena Adisi was speaking on Abusua fm’s midmorning program, Abusua Mmre jointly hosted by Mr. Katah and Nana Hemaa.

Bola Ray was recounting his fifteen years’ experience as the most listened to host of drive time show in Accra and arguably in the country.

The CEO of EIB Network also revealed that he had constant misunderstandings with his parents because they never supported the idea of becoming a radio presenter.

“My parents were against my decision of doing radio…I read finance and accounting in school and so they thought I should join the white color profession and make some good money from the corporate world,” he said. “I was not so much concerned with the idea of money because I had bigger ambitions than immediate financial gains.”

“I had our eyes on the big prize. That’s why I want to tell the youth that there are no shortcuts to success. There are no short routes to riches. I believe you have to pay your dues. You need to be focused, ambitious, and brilliant at what you do and it will come,” he stated.

Bola Ray finally dropped the microphone last Friday as host of Starr Drive which coincided with his 15th anniversary as the Don of drive time in Ghana. He subsequently handed the baton over to one of Accra’s most talented drive time hosts, Giovani Elolo Caleb.

Sharing the challenging moments of his career, Bola Ray said he used to walk from Agbogbloshie to Legon because he closed late from work at Radio Universe and could not afford to pay for taxi.

“I didn’t see that to be a problem. Sometimes you close and there are market women as well as those who come to sell at bush canteen and they’re going home so you help some of them…because you want company.”
