NCA closes down FM Station

Aflao (V/R), April 28, GNA - A combined team of Officials of the National Communications Authority (NCA) and the Police on Tuesday closed down Light FM, a private radio station at Aflao for failure to settle its license fees with the Authority.

The team, led by Major Owusu Adansi (rtd), Director, Frequency Management of the NCA, seized amplifiers, transmitter and transformers of the station, a Police source at Aflao told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Wednesday.

Mr Julius Tuire, Managing Director of the Station when contacted by the Other sources close to the Station told the GNA that prior to the closure of the station they received threats of attacks on them, including the closure of the station.

According to the sources, a day before the closure the Management of the station was forced to take its Newspaper review programme off the air.

It is being speculated that the closure was politically motivated.
