NKASEI...Back From 'Exile'

Ghana is a democratic country where all and sundry believe in freedom of speech but when one’s speech infringes on somebody else’s right, a lot of misfortune happens leaving you in the wilderness.

The hiplife duo Nkasei after their controversial track “Tuobodom” have been off the music scene for five years now. Their lives were in serious treat after that album and so decided to travel out of the country until all tempers calm down.

The duo is made up of Isaac Mensah and Kwame Godlove Yeboah Prah, but often referred to in showbiz circles as Naa Kay and Shy respectively. They made their appearance in the music industry in 2000 with their maiden album “Bisa” which had hit track “Ekomamo” that brought them to the lime light. In 2002 they again resurfaced with the album “Nsenkyireni” which enjoyed massive airplay nationwide and they were characterized with their crafty costumes.

The third album did not enjoy the much anticipated airplay but was equally divisive due to the tension it brought between the people of Tuobodom.

The duo left the shores of Ghana in the heat of the moment and established themselves in the UK. One of the pair, Naa Kay is in town and working on his solo album. Peacefmonline in an exclusive interview with him discovered that Naa Kay joined the Army in the UK whiles Shy combined schooling and work as well.

Asked why he is recording alone, Naa Kay revealed that it was an agreement reached between the two that they will embark on solo projects and later rejoin as a group. Shy is also working on his solo album and will be hitting the airwaves in September. Naa Kay who is now a member of the UK army is of the notion that music is his main profession and so will always put music first. He is presently through with his album dubbed “My Album Of The Decade” which was recorded by good old JQ and Pee Wizzle in Kumasi.

Naa Kay told peacefmonline that he is comfortable combining the two jobs since he has the passion for both and besides, “the army does not frown on me being a musician” but rather supports me; “I play with the army band back there,” he said.

According to Naa Kay being away for five years he knows his fans have truly missed him and so have to come out with a very good music. The first phase of the album will be released on August 28 and the main release in September.
