Nana Ama Enters Gospel

Nana Ama Amponsah is not a name that many people would easily associate with music in Ghana. This is because it was only last weekend that her maiden album was released at Tema.

For many years, she sang at church until her husband Kuma Amponsah encouraged her to enter the world of professional gospel music. It is that which led to the production of the album titled Eye Awurade Na Aye.

“He urged me on to produce my songs in order to reach many people with the things I have to talk about the goodness of God and so I decided to do this work, “Nana Ama said.

According to the songstress the focus of her debut album is on the goodness of God. “The Lord has done a lot for me and I believe he can do same for those who trust in him. That is the subject of this album.”

Eye Awurade Na Aye is a ten-track album with the individual songs borrowing beats from several music genres.

The title song, which has been enjoying a lot of airplay already, seems to be the one to push the album. Woven into a slow reggae beat, the words of the song talk about the fact that it is the Lord who does everything.

The singer argues that in her thoughts and in all the things she does the Lord looks after her and protects her from trouble. She adds that because she is lost for words all she can do is sing to express her gratitude to God.

The instrumentation synchronizes well with the song especially the bass and lead guitars that cut through the lyrics now and again. It sure is a good song coming as it does from a debutante.

Nana Ama’s love for slow music is seen at play in another song titled Fa Wo Ho Bo Awurade. In the lyrics she tells her listener that what is difficult to be done by humans is very easy for God to do hence they should come to Him for salvation.

Being a very subtle form of reggae, the song is performed in a cool manner to ensure that it will be soothing to the careful listeners. Maybe that was not the intended purpose though it sounds like it was.

Ayeyi Nnwom, Nea Wo Aye Ama Me, Woaye Me Odehye are among the songs featured on the maiden work of Nana Ama Amponsah. Her desire is that those who listen to the songs on her album “will be encouraged to know that whatever problems they face can be solved by the Lord.”

The album was released on the EAKS Entertainment record label and distributed by Big Ben Music Production with the Executive Producer being Kuma Amponsah.
