Nana Obiri Yeboah’s “The Cursed Ones” wins big at AMAA 2016

The Africa Movie Academy Awards – AMAA 2016 which came off at the Obi Wali International Conference Center in Port Harcourt, Rivers State saw Ghanaian – UK based film director, Nana Obiri Yeboah’s “The Cursed Ones” win three awards out of the thirteen nominations.

The categories won were Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best in Production Design in Africa.

The movie so far has won several other awards in its short run, including the 2016 Canada International Film Festival for Foreign Feature Film and 2015 Ghana Movie Awards.

With its story revolving around a girl in a village who was branded a witch, ‘The Cursed Ones’ attacks and exposes some of the entrenched societal prejudices developed on the back of our grand obsession with superstition.

‘The Cursed Ones’ was written by Maximilian Claussen, directed by Nana Obiri Yeboah, and starred, amongst others; Oris Erhuero, Jimmy Jean-Lewis, Fred Amugi, Ophelia Dzidzornu, David Dontoh, as well as Ama K.
