Faced with severe hardship, Ghanaian actress Nayas has disclosed that she once attempted to commit suicide when her situation worsened in Germany.
She explained that life took a different direction for her when she moved to Germany with her former husband.
She detailed the intensity of the situation while speaking with Emelia Brobbey on the Okukuseku Show.
Reflecting on the comfortable life she lived in Ghana compared to the life she experienced in Germany, Nayas told the host that she would have opted for death rather than public disgrace.
“It got to a point where I thought of two things. If I was to choose between shame and death, I would have chosen death. When I look at my lifestyle back in Ghana and losing everything in the twinkle of an eye, I would have chosen death over shame.
“I was tempted to take my own life, but it took the grace of God. I couldn’t stand the pressure. I was having weird thoughts, and it was overshadowing me. I had a friend who was with me throughout the journey. It was so bad that if I hadn’t met that lady, I would have gone mad or died,” she said.
One may ask why she never sought assistance from friends. According to the television personality, she did share her ordeal with a friend but was betrayed by that friend.
“My situation was affecting my mental health. I couldn’t talk to anyone about what I was going through. I remember when it started, I spoke to someone in Germany, and it didn’t go well; she disgraced me. It was so bad that if I hadn’t met a lady, I would have gone mad or died,” she added.
The interview also unravelled other secrets, such as Nayas saying that she owned only one brassiere during her eighteen-month stay in Germany.
