Accra, Jan. 4, GNA, - Nene Akpotosu III, Asafoatse of the Ada Lomobiawe Clan, on Wednesday emerged the proud winner of a sleek C-class Mercedes Benz salon car in the Areeba Connect and Win Promotion. The car was worth 38,000 dollars (349.6 million cedis). The chief won with phone number 024-2581928, which was one of 15 phone numbers he bought and connected for himself and his 13 children and other family members.

A taxi driver selected at random from the street picked his coupon and Nene was called on his phone when he was relaxing at home at Abossey Okai, in Accra.

He boarded a taxi, dressed in his royal regalia accompanied by some friends arrived at the Areeba branch at Osu in style, amidst cheers from the crowd, who had gathered to witness the draw.

Nene told the crowd that the car was a birthday gift for him, as he would be celebrating his 70th birthday in February 2006.

He said in his 70 years of life he had bought, owned and lost 37 cars, adding that as of now he had no car and had been praying for one.

Nene, who described himself as the most controversial man at Ada, praised Areeba for the promotion saying that he least expected to win and the fact that he won indicated that the promotion was free and fair. The Connect and Win Promotion lasted for six weeks and also saw two other Areeba customers win Alpha Romeo 156 salon cars. Mr Haitham Majed, Marketing Director of Areeba told the 1.8 million Areeba customers that the Company would bring better promotions to reward customers for their loyalty to Ghana's largest mobile phone network.

He said for starters, Areeba had from this month begun another promotion to enable 200 subscribers to win a fully paid for package to join the Black Stars to the world cup in Germany in June.
