Kan-I, a versatile Afrobeat/Hiplife/Hiphop artist has released his first major single in Ghana after many years of exploits in the USA.

The new single, ‘Purest of Heart’ which recently hit the airwaves in Accra is an Afrobeat-infused track which talks about his ideal woman sent from up above -pretty and amazing in all ways. It features his Playbak Music Group label-mates, Dr Kawunda, Krucifix and Nzema Greeny.

‘Purest of Heart’ is one of the many tracks that would feature on Kan-I’s yet to be completed album. According to him the album is almost ready and Ghanaians should expect more of him on radio and TV soon.

“I have a couple of songs yet to hit the radio and my album is almost done. I am working with great producers in Ghana and the US including the likes Krucifix, Dr Ray and Cash. ‘Purest of Heart’ is my first single but I also have the lovely highlife track, ‘Fatia Fata Nkrumah’ ready for promo. Both songs were produced by Krucifix”

He is set to shoot the video for ‘Purest of Heart’ with award-winning music video director, Gyo Gyimah of Phamous Philms.

He hints that the video would feature several cameos from top Ghanaian acts, and promises to produce quality music that reflects his rich musical background. “I’m from a musical family, the Osibisa family. Mac Tontoh and Teddy Osei are my uncles, so my blood line is top music, top entertainment. I want Ghanaians to expect the best, nothing gimmicky just good music and great entertainment; something you would expect from Mac Tontoh. That’s what I’m trying to live up to, I’m not sure I can fill in those shoes but just trying to live up to that legacy.”

Kan-I was born as Born Duke Tontoh in Accra to an Ashanti father and a Krobo mother. Kan-i is signed to 64 Regiment Inc, which he co-owns, and is also affiliated with Playbak Music Group. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Liberty University in Virginia, USA and is based in the Bronx, New York.

Coming from a musical family, Kan-I has always been passionate about creating music. He started writing and producing music at age 16 as a hobby. His foray into the music industry started with The Native Tribe, a group he formed with his high school friends. He broke from the group and released his first solo single, ‘Afi wei’ in 2003.

He later released ‘Bonafide Winner’ ft Tinny and the critically acclaimed ‘Dear Mr. President’ in 2009. He is set to release his first solo album in mid-2014. The album consists of 11 high tempo and danceable songs, a deviation from the more conscious songs that he previously released. Recorded in Accra, Ghana and Bronx, NY, the album has influences of both original African sounds and Hip hop flavors.

His musical influences span the entire spectrum, from Tupac, 50 Cent and Akon to Amakye Dede, Osibisa and Daddy Lumba.
