Allegations that Ghanaian actor Kwaku Manu has been benefiting from politicians have been dismissed by the actor himself.

He explained that during John Dramani Mahama's presidency, there was an initiative to distribute cars to financially struggling celebrities, with the expectation that they would repay the value as a loan.

Manu clarified that although he attended the event where the vehicles were distributed, he did not accept a car because he already owned one at the time.

He expressed confusion over the criticism directed at celebrities who disclose their political affiliations, questioning the rationale behind such reactions.

"Why would you be angry if someone is affiliated with NPP or NDC? Are you wiser than everyone? Mahama realized that some celebrities were not living in good conditions, so he put measures in place to gift cars so that they could pay for them as loans over time.

"I went to see the cars with others who were struggling at that time. I told them to give it to others because I had a vehicle that was dear to me. I was driving at that time. No politician has ever fed me. Nobody can boldly claim so. So when I speak, I know what I am talking about," he stated in a video shared by Express GH TV on their YouTube channel.

His remarks followed Actress Oheneyere Mercy Asiedu's call for actors to support Mahama in the upcoming 2024 general elections, citing his past gesture of providing cars during his term as president.

During the same meeting with the NDC flagbearer, Kwaku Manu echoed his colleague's statements and advocated for support for Mahama.

The comments have sparked significant criticism from some members of the public.
