Before Obrafour, Lord Kenya, Okomfour Kwadee, Okyeame Kwame, others, passed on the ‘rap’ music baton to the likes of Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, M.Anifest, et al., to put Ghana music on the map, there was Kojo Antwi, Daddy Lumba, Amakye Dede, others.

Although it’s an established fact that Kojo Antwi, Amakye Dede and Daddy Lumba are not active off late in our music industry, their legacy cannot be overlooked.

On records, Sarkodie remains the most awarded African rapper regardless rapper Okyeame Kwame has disclosed that he’s nowhere near the likes of Kojo Antwi, Amakye Dede, Daddy Lumba.

Okyeame Kwame in a healthy conversation with DJ Roar of Kumasi-based Kessben FM on “Entertainment Circle” posited that no rapper in our contemporary times can reign or better still be more popular than the aforementioned artistes.

According to him, the works of musicians who started music in the era of Kojo Antwi, Daddy Lumba & Amakye Dede continue to reign in the memory of Ghanaians of all ages. He added that, it comes to a point in time where Ghanaians tend to compare and contrast the content of songs in our contemporary era to that of the pioneers. In doing so, they’re able to assert that the artistes during the era of Daddy Lumba are legends.

“It gets to a point in time when children begin to label the lyrical content of contemporary rappers as noise. This is because they begin to compare the current crop of music to the oldies. In so doing, they’re able to know the difference and conclude that the current crop of rappers are just making noise. That’s why no matter the popularity of a contemporary rapper, he or she can’t be on the same level pegging with Kojo Antwi, Daddy Lumba, Amakye Dede, others. In simple terms, Ghanaians are able to relate well with their songs”, Okyeame Kwame revealed.

He added that, although these old musicians are not doing active music but they’re the people’s favorite whenever they organise music shows.

Okyeame Kwame concluded that it’s high time the young musicians; Sarkodie, M.Anifest, E.L, Guru, others knock the doors of these ace musicians in order to tap some clues so they can stay strong and push the music industry.
