Ghanaian Afro-pop, Dancehall and R&B artiste, Vera Hamenoo Kpeda popularly referred to as MzVee has responded to circulating criticisms that she has never performed outside the country, an argument many people have advanced to question her nomination for the BET International Best African Act.

MvZee who made an appearance on the widely watched satirical talk show, Tonight with Nii Kpakpo Thomspon on Viasat1 last Friday sounded a little rattled with the pressure being mounted on her by Ghanaians and at a point insisted that she has all the emails and documents to prove to her critics that she has fans all over the world.

MzVee was nominated in the BET International Best African Act alongside other heavy weights across the continent last month but has since come under intense scrutiny from a section of Ghanaians who strongly believe that she didn’t deserve a place in the nominations.

Responding to a question by host Nii Kpakpo Thompson as to how she handles criticisms about never mounting a stage outside the country, MzVee responded, “People get it very wrong. I think that it is not about going to perform outside; going to perform in some little clubs somewhere that will give you the recognition that you need. If BET wanted someone international, why aren’t they using Beyoncé from Africa or something? They are looking at the works we are doing in our individual countries and they are trying to appreciate us for it. I just think a lot of people are ignorant about the fact that this has to do mainly about hard work and what my music is about.”

Jessica Opare Saforo, co-host of the popular show, Celebrity Fanzone, has in the recent past come to the defense of MzVee insisting, “What we need to do as Ghanaians is to rally behind our own and push her.”

MvZee also rejected claims that she has a point to prove by performing overseas arguing that her focus is to first conquer Ghana.

“I don’t have to stand on a stage outside to prove a point outside. People forget that every team has their strategy and mine has its strategy as well and ours is to conquer Ghana the right way and so I am not done from here and I don’t see why I am rushing to go and perform in some small club in London, why?,” the BET nominated music star stated.

In the past, representatives of Ghana at the BET Awards have put up a very strong showing with Sarkodie and Stonebwoy winning the awards in 2012 and 2015 respectively. Catch a repeat broadcast of Tonight with Nii Kpakpo Thompson on Tuesday at 11 am and watch it every Friday at 9pm on Viasat1.
