The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Ras Caleb Appiah Levi, has said he is not aware that the union invested GHS70,000 in Menzgold Ghana Limited.
The First Vice-President of MUSIGA, Mr Bessa Simons disclosed the alleged investment in a few days ago.
“MUSIGA’s decision to invest in Menzgold was taken by the National Executive Committee and then this disaster happened. This has happened to so many organisations. They did it with good intentions to earn more money for MUSIGA. So, if there is a problem, I think we all have to wait and pray and make sure that it is corrected. A lot of organisations and individuals have lost money through this,” Bessa Simon said.
Speaking in an interview with Nana Kwesi Asare on the Big Show on Class91.3FM on Saturday, 20 July 2019, Ras Caleb said the national executives lied to the public that all the regional executives were aware of the investment.
“I didn’t know anything about it but I heard about this Menzgold issue that some of our national executives say that it was addressed at the national executive council meeting, which I was a party to. It’s not true. We only heard about it after the collapse of Menzgold,” he said.
“First, where did we [MUSIGA] get that GHS70,000 from? Who gave us that money and what is the reason? If it’s me who did this, it would’ve been agreed upon, there will be a document that all the regional executives will counter-sign that we have agreed that this money we’re sending here will be used for this and that purposes,” he said.
“I’m surprised. I want to know the source of that GHS70,000. I had calls, some even sent WhatsApp messages saying: ‘Chairman, I heard it’s $70,000 and I said how…?’”.
