Not all 'gospel' songs are spiritual songs – Pentecost Apostle

Apostle Johnson Agyemang Baduh Apostle Johnson Agyemang Baduh

Apostle Johnson Agyemang Baduh, Odorkor Area Head of The Church of Pentecost has revealed that not all “gospel” songs are spiritually motivated.

Addressing participants of the 2017 Global Ministers and Wives’ Conference of The Church of Pentecost at the Pentecost Convention Centre, Gomoa Fetteh on Thursday, January 12, 2017, he said although a song may contain certain scriptures in the Bible to support its lyrics, listeners should be guarded when listening to such songs in order not to fall prey to the trap of the devil.

The Odorkor Area Head said Christ-like songs are essentially sermons, or the word of God expressed in musical sounds.

“These are songs that encapsulate the sayings, deeds, death, resurrection and return of Christ,” he explained. He continued: “To be Christ-Like, a song must therefore convey the preaching of Christ being the centre of the Christian worldview, under the inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit” (John 16:13, Romans 8:14, 1 Corinthians 14:15).

He also noted that the kind of information people feed their minds with have consequences on their output, in deeds and words, adding that “the best kind of songs are those that bring out the best in the listeners, proclaims Christ and His deeds, praise God and glorify Him as well.”

He further explained that a Christ-like song should not be a song that laments about one’s weakness without providing a solution to the challenge the person might be facing.

Apostle Agyemang Baduh disclosed that though certain songs may contain good messages yet they do not qualify as spiritual gospel songs.

He therefore advised christians against listening to songs from circular music artistes who once in a while release gospel tracks without necessarily having a repentant heart.

He urged the ministers and Christians in general to pray for the Spirit of discernment and also make use of the Spirit of God in selecting good gospel songs to listen to.
