Not all prayers are heard by God - Dr. Nyamekye explains

Dr. Michael Boadi Nyamekye, the General Overseer of Makers House Chapel International Church, shared valuable insights on the types of prayers God responds to.

Dr. Nyamekye, a respected clergyman known for his deep understanding of Scripture, emphasized that while God is omnipresent and hears all prayers, not every prayer aligns with His will or is answered.

During a discussion on Okay FM, monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Dr. Nyamekye explained that for a prayer to be effective, it must be by God’s will and made in the name of Jesus Christ.

He clarified, “God does not respond to every prayer. It’s not about the location or how loud you pray; what matters is whether your prayer is in line with His will.” The concept of God’s will, he said, is central to understanding how our prayers are received.

He highlighted certain types of prayers that are not by God’s will and, therefore, will not be answered.

“If you pray to harm others, if you pray for vengeance or ask God to take away someone so that you can benefit from their possessions, God will not answer such prayers,” Dr. Nyamekye stated. He emphasized that God’s nature is one of love, and He will never honour prayers that seek to hurt or diminish others for personal gain.

The conversation also touched on common misunderstandings people may have when praying. Dr. Nyamekye noted that prayers rooted in selfish desires or those that seek to manipulate situations for personal benefit are also ineffective.

He illustrated this point with a clear example, saying, “Imagine someone praying that another person’s business fails so theirs can succeed. That’s not a prayer God will honour. It is not in His will to destroy someone else’s life for your own benefit.”

According to Dr. Nyamekye, the Bible provides a clear framework for effective prayer. He encouraged believers to reflect on their motives when praying, ensuring that their petitions align with biblical principles.

He shared that prayers should also be in line with the teachings of Jesus Christ, whose name carries authority and power. “In the name of Jesus, every prayer is made perfect,” he remarked, emphasizing the importance of Jesus as the mediator between humanity and God.
