The official launch of Miss Universe 2017 which was scheduled for June 1 has been rescheduled to June 8 to give Menaye Donkor, National Director of the pageantry the space to mourn her father in law who passed away after battling illness.
In a statement to announce the postponement of the event, Menaye the wife of Sulley Muntari said: “Sorry to inform you that due to the death of my father in law, the Press Launch event scheduled for June 1st has been postponed to the 8th of June. I am deeply sorry for any inconveniences. Thank you for your continuous support. I still look forward to seeing you”.
Alhaji Muniru passed away on Monday at the 37 Military hospital in Accra after battling illness for some time.
Coach, as he is affectionately called by his peer and people in the football fraternity, is the major backbone behind his sons, Sulley Muntari and Muniru and have helped them build an enviable career in football.
Miss Universe Ghana whose slogan is Ghana’s Next Sweetheart is a national pageant that sends representatives to the Miss Universe pageant. This pageant is unrelated to Miss Ghana or Miss Earth Ghana pageant. The pageantry has been running since 1991.
Menaye Donkor who is now the National Director for the pageantry was once a participant and a winner of the pageantry in 2004.
