Ofori Amponsah shakes Liberia

If the authenticity and coronation of a prophet is always in another town, then Ghana Music Award superstar, Ofori Amponsah has undoubtedly proved that he is a music legend worthy of all honor and adoration, be it in Ghana or another, like he recently did in Liberia.

It was sheer astounding to see the tumultuous crowd that greeted the man at the venues that he exhibited his prowess as Ghana’s most acclaimed singer. His gigs also earned him another breathtaking credential as one of the most thrilling artistes in the sub-region when he doled out gripping performances to thousands of fans in that country which is still trying to piece itself together after the turbulence of war.

The crowd that met him at the airport was overwhelming as though they had been told to come and welcome the president of Ghana. Over four thousand fans gathered at the airport, which was about 35 km from the capital, Monrovia, to hail Amponsah and also formed a motorcade convoy in celebrations that blocked traffic flow on busy Monrovia streets.

As if Liberia had always been his homeland, Amponsah threw all his skills onto the stages as he performed before varying personalities and dignitaries of stature, such as senior government officials and business tycoons, as well as people of all walks of life. The first show was at one was at the Bernard’s Beach in the Liberian capital and the second was in the evening of same day at the Monrovia City Hall.

The crowd at both events showed that Amponsah’s fame and ingenuity is bringing him more acclamations as a true African star to reckon with. He treated over 6000 fans at the beach to some of his beautiful songs, while the city hall, with a capacity of about 2500 seats was also filled to capacity with guests including the crème-de-la-crème of Monrovia city.

At both venues, the audience simply could not hold their bodies stiff as they pulsated rhythmically to melodies oozing from the superstar. Comparatively, Ofori Amponsah had become a Michael Jackson to the frenzied Liberians and made one wonder how come that Ofori’s reputation as an icon had completely arrested his audience to such a height that they kept shouting out adulations for him to keep the show going non-stop.

While in Liberia, Ofori Amponsah had dinner with Mayor of Monrovia, Ophelia Huff, and also met the Agriculture Minister, Solomon Hedd Williams, and Presidential Special Assistant, Madina Wiesseh.

Ofori Amponsah was accompanied on the trip by Kofi Nti, and were superbly received by the Ghana High Commissioner to Liberia, H. E. Maj. Gen F. Adu-Amenfoh.

According to the president of XP Productions of Liberia, Mr Sam Doe, who promoted the event, it is likely that the musician could be back in Liberia by end of the year due to the overwhelming response he received in Liberia.

Unfortunately for the ace musician, his buddy and manager, Mufty Dabre could not be around long to relish in the fame of his friend as Amponsah climbs the ladder of international stardom.
