Ezekiel Aguyire, a relative of hiplife musician Jerry Anaba, better known as Okomfour Kwadee, has appealed to the public for financial assistance for the artiste.
In an interview with Joy FM’s Kwame Dadzie, Ezekiel confirmed that Kwadee is currently in their hometown, Mirigu Nabango in the Upper East Region, grappling with ongoing mental health challenges while lacking the financial means to access treatment.
“He is not feeling well. But now he is a little better. We need the help of Ghanaians for our brother now. He is not supposed to be here but because of the sickness he had to leave Kumasi,” Ezekiel expressed.
He disclosed that they had taken Kwadee to various treatment centers but were hindered by financial constraints from accessing certain medical services.
While soliciting suggestions from the public on how to provide Kwadee with proper treatment, Ezekiel emphasized the significant role finances play in the situation. “Even if we find a solution without money, we're unable to proceed,” he added.
Regarding Kwadee's recent performance video circulating on social media, Ezekiel expressed disapproval, stating he would have intervened had he been present.
“A week ago, he went to do a show, they took a video of him and took it to social media. That day I was not around but I came back and heard everything. I did not feel fine about it,” he remarked.
He also cast doubt on whether Kwadee was compensated for his performance, as the event was organized by a family member residing in another town.
Ezekiel shared that he had been caring for Okomfour Kwadee since the latter relocated to Nabongo about two years ago until his mother also joined them.
He added that Kwadee’s father recently passed away, and his funeral is scheduled for the upcoming weekend.
Meanwhile, the distressing video of Kwadee appearing emaciated and frail during a performance has sparked concern among music enthusiasts and industry insiders, leading to discussions about his mental health and financial circumstances.
Quick Action, a music producer and close associate of Kwadee revealed on Joy FM‘s Showbiz A-Z that he last communicated with Kwadee in November 2023 when the musician mentioned visiting his hometown for a family reunion.
Asked about his initial reaction upon seeing the video, Quick Action declined to comment, citing the sensitive nature of the issue.
Background:
Reports have persisted about Kwadee's struggles with mental health issues, following his discharge from a rehabilitation facility in 2021.
His appearance in the media circuit was brief. In 2022, his mother disclosed that Kwadee had been left at a rehabilitation center, an initiative initiated by Lord Kenya in 2020.
