Versatile Ghanaian musician, Kwame Nsiah-Apau, popularly known as Okyeame Kwame has called on Ghanaians to plant more trees.

Speaking in an interview with DJ Shatar on Suncity 97.1 FM’s Highway Drive 971 in Sunyani, the ‘Rap Doctor’ who has now been appointed as an Ambassador for climate change said protecting the environment is a holistic cooperate responsibility.

“I was appointed as Climate Change Ambassador last week. Solidaridad believes the partnership between me and [them] will help us to campaign effectively on climate change. We need to protect the forest and fertile lands that our fathers left for us. We have a huge role to play,” he revealed.

“It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do. It relates to all of us. It won’t rain again if we cut all our trees to produce charcoal. Now the Ghana Water Company says they will be rationing of water. All this is happening because of how we maltreat our lands and forest. We can solve it by planting more trees. We should not cut the tress down without replanting more,” Okyeame Kwame emphasized.

“As a musician I will do climate campaign songs to get people attention...Beyond the song we will also interact with the people through durbars, media engagement and other things,” he noted.

The Climate Change Ambassador disclosed that the Ghana Dedicated Grand Mechanism (DGM) is being launched in the Brong Ahafo and Western Region--because of the number of farming activities that they engage themselves in.

He stressed that the issue of climate change is vital so everybody has a role to play in order to have a safe environment.

“Challenge illegal chainsaw operators to produce their permit if you see them cutting trees around your area,” Okyeame Kwame urged Ghanaians.
