Okyeame Kwame stole our lyrics-Kofi King’s Manager

Okyeame Kwame Okyeame Kwame

Nana Yaw Bekoe Manager of up and coming Ghanaian artiste Kofi King has accused Kwame Apau popularly called ‘Okyeame Kwame’ of stealing portions of lyrics in his artiste’s yet to be released song titled ‘Asete, wo se lie b3n’.

According to him, the ‘Rap Dacta’ used portions of his artiste’s lyrics in his new song ‘Halleluya’ without seeking approval from them.

He described the act as lyrical bribery on the part of the ‘Rap Dacta’, alleging that Abotsi, the Sound Engineer of Soul Town Music who recorded Kofi King’s ‘Asete’ connived with Okyeame Kwame to steal the lyrics.

Speaking with sit-in host of Abusua FM’s Entertainment Nanahemaa, Nana Yaw Bekoe explained that Abotsi is the same sound engineer who worked and featured on Okyeame Kwame’s ‘Halleluya’ which is enjoying massive airplay.

He said he confronted Abotsi when Okyeame Kwame’s song was released, and he accepted his mistake, but Okyeame Kwame denied stealing the vocals when they told him that they had already registered the lyrics.

He added that they are not going public to make his artiste famous or generate media hype to inure to King’s benefits indicating that King had the chorus while Abotsi had the vocals.

But they were infuriated when Okyeame Kwame further released a second song featuring Nero X titled ‘It’s Ok’ with the same lyrics running in the song.

Mr Bekoe threatened to file a suit against Okyeame Kwame for using their registered lyrics in his two songs.

‘Okyeame Kwame is an artiste most young artistes look up to, he has made his mark already so we don’t have any evil plans of tarnishing his image. Let me put it on record that we don’t want our artiste to ride on the popularity of Okyeame Kwame to climb to the limelight.

In February, we registered so many songs, from May to June, we promoted only two songs. Kofi King has the chorus of the song, the content of the chorus was ‘Asete wo se lie b3n’. Abotsi who is the sound engineer of soul town music at Santa Maria in Accra is friend of Okyeame Kwame, Abotsi is the same person who worked on the vocals for ‘Asete’. So he knew the content of the whole song. We only realised that portions of the lyrics were running in Okyeame Kwame’s song, we warned him to desist from using the lyrics in his future song but he refused and reproduced the lyrics in his song with Nero X. This is complete lyrical robbery,’ he explained.
