Okyeame Kwame & the ‘Ecomini Ecomini’ Lyrics

The demise of Atta mills made so many musicians compose a song to show their remorse of the sad event. MUSIGA as the official mouth piece of musicians in Ghana did not exclude themselves and they also composed a song in honor of our late president.

This song might be taken as the official song of Atta Mills’ funeral since it was produced by the Musicians Union of Ghana. The song featured artists like, Obour, Rex Omar, DSP Kofi Sarpong, Samini, Kontihene, Nacy, Abrante Amakye Dede just to mention few. Since the release of the song, it has gone under so many criticisms. Some say it’s the best tribute song ever, others are saying otherwise. Some people on the other hand criticized the song based on the artists.

Okyeame Kwame as we all know was not excluded in the tribute song. Most people have been talking about his verse. Some critics think Okyeame Kwame was rather mocking the late president instead of saying something about him as his colleagues did.

Okyeame Kwame was not happy to hear this story so he has come out to clarify his lyrics he used. Let’s look at Okyeame Kwame’s lyrics and continue from there:

Rap Doctor (2x) ecomini ecomini,mo ma yenyina 3fr3re s3 yasere en3 m’adwen s3 )mpene efris3 yawhere asomdwei hene whan na yesi no oman mu hene a,obu ade3,f3re nipa )ka mepaky3w,nanim te a asem bi a,yen mp3 nt)kwa,wonkoaa

Okyeame Kwame said, he understands why people don’t understand what he said because Ghanaians don’t understand music. After listening to the beat they look out for the phrases in the song then they leave everything else and dance to the tune. ‘Everything I said in the song was to praise the man. I was not laughing at him but showing my remorse. I was making reference to show that we are all guilty of laughing at the man. Every Ghanaian including me who laughed at him must be ashamed because now that he is dead we are all praising him.

When I was writing those lyrics I knew that it was going to cause a stir but I thought that people will listen to it and become ashamed. When I had the chance of meeting him he said ‘the ‘ecomini’, we use to laugh at him is rather his ringing tone and I was deeply ashamed’. How can I say all these lyrics and people will say am laughing at the man when they are rather laughing at him’, rap doctor punched.

He further added that Kumasi is the only place where he has had this controversy from and it’s the only or one of the few places in Ghana where people know him, the only place where people have perfect understanding into what he can and cannot do, and is also the only place in Ghana where most people speaks and understand Twi which is the same language he used in the song so he is very confused and he concluded with a confusion question Why Kumasi? He begged the general public to forgive him if he has offended anyone with his lyrics and he urged the general public to get the lyrics of the song.**
