Okyeame Kwame to change name

Ghanaian musician, song-writer, creative director and entrepreneur, Okyeame Kwame is thinking of changing his name anytime soon.

The musician nicknamed Rap Doctor in a chat with Hitz FM News at the recently held F14 concert giving a reason for his possible change of name said foreigners find it difficult pronouncing it.

According to him, most people outside Ghana do not get the pronunciation of his first name, “Okyeame” right which worries him. He continued that he does not want the name to be an obstacle, hence the idea of changing his stage name.

“In November, we were running around Africa but wherever we go to they can’t say Okyeame and it breaks my heart. They are able to pronounce Kwame but not the first name, Okyeame. Although I love my roots and I love the name, I do not want the name to be a barrier so maybe I will turn it into initials or take it off and just call myself Kwame or keep Rad Doctor. For now I don’t know the name I’m going to use but we are still thinking about it. I think that the name, something must be done about it.”

Giving the possible name he might use, the artiste known in real life as Kwame Nsiah Apau disclosed that “I like ‘OK’. Its okay to be ‘OK'”

Kwame released his first solo album “Boshe Ba” in 2004, just after the breakup of the Akyeame band. He followed in 2008 with “Manwesem” and in 2011 with “The Clinic”, launched at the Aphrodisiac Night Club in Accra. In 2012 he launched “The Versatile Show”.

Okyeame Kwame joined multiple award-winning highlife artiste Kwabena Kwabena at the Accra International Conference Center where this year’s F14 concert held for a great show.

The two renowned musicians gave the crowd first-class performance to show their maturity as musicians.
