Okyeman to celebrate Ohum festival

Accra, July 8, GNA - The Okyeman Council on Friday announced that this year's Ohum festival would take off from July 26 to August 4. The festival, one of the famous and most important cultural festivals in the country, is celebrated annually by the people of the Okyeman Kingdom to thank God for his blessings and to cleanse the stools of Akyem.

It is also celebrated in remembrance of the ancestors of the Akyem land for their struggle and perseverance to keep the Kingdom. The festival also to marks the first harvest of yam and to ask for increased harvests for the coming year.

A statement by the council in Accra said the highlight of the eight-day festival would be the Grand Durbar of the Chiefs and People on August 6 at Kyebi.

Some of the activities include, tree planting, soccer matches, Clean-up campaigns, Food Fairs and the Crowning of Miss Ohum.
