"Okyenhene Mmofra Afahye" celebrated at Kukurantumi

Kukurantumi (E/R), April 17, GNA- This year's "Mmofra Afahye" which would be celebrated in all the traditional divisions of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area as a prelude to "Okyenhene Mmofra Afahye"(Okyenhene's children festival) was observed at Kukurantumi on Saturday.

The festival aims at developing and creating culture awareness among school children, unearthing talents and entertaining the children. This year's celebration was under the theme: "Building our Future" and would be celebrated at Asiakwa on May 21, Begoro on June 18, Akyem Wenkyi on July 16 and Kwabeng on August 20 to culminate in the main festival to be held from October 7-9 this year at Kyebi.

The "Mmofra Afahye," which is being celebrated for the second time, was instituted to commemorate the enstoolment and coronation of Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin as the Okyenhene.

Children from Nana Korkor Daa-Mansah Primary School based at Kukurantumi, Akooko Presbyterian Primary School and the Old Tafo Presbyterian Primary School, all in the East Akim District, competed in cultural displays, poetry recitals, quiz and games as part of the celebration.

Nana Kesseboa Serwaa, the Adonkwantahemaa, presented to the Old Tafo Presbyterian Primary school, who were adjudged the overall winners, two computers donated by the Okyenhene.

She advised the students to learn hard so as to be useful citizens in the future and to recognize and use their skills and talents properly.

Earlier, Nana Asabea Ofori-Atta, the wife of the Okyenhene presented books and certificates to the participating schools and the students who took part in the quiz and the track and field events.
