An old interview featuring Yaw Sarpong where the veteran musician provided insights into his relationship with fellow musician Maame Tiwaa has surfaced amid recent allegations.
Afia Schwarzenegger shared the video on her Instagram page, where Sarpong recalled beginning his collaboration with Tiwaa in 1981 within the same music group.
He acknowledged Tiwaa's extensive support for his music career, describing their bond as very close.
Sarpong disclosed that misunderstandings about his closeness with Tiwaa, who is not his wife, have led to unfounded accusations of an extramarital affair.
"If we start discussing Tiwaa, this programme won't end. I met her at a funeral in 1978 and talked about my future group 'Daakye,' inviting her to join. She agreed, but we lost contact until 1981 when I was recording my first album. Tiwaa had moved from Atonsu, so I found her in a village and brought her into my singing team.
"Since then, we've worked together, but there are rumours that I divorced my wife to date her. I was married before Tiwaa joined me. People don't understand our relationship, but it's always been this way. I don't know anyone who supports me more than Tiwaa; she's been there for me in everything," Sarpong stated.
This video gained attention after Sarpong's wife expressed her dismay over the family's decision to let Tiwaa care for her husband rather than herself.
A heated exchange between Sarpong's wife and Tiwaa occurred on Oyerepa FM during an interview about the musician's health.
