One For The Godfather Of Hiplife Music In Ghana

2007 has been fairly good to Reggie as far as his career matters -- even if he?s had moments that rubbed him in the wrong way.

His run in with the FBI- a failed jubilee concert in New York obviously hasn?t done enough to cage him out of the spot light.

For one, a documentary about his music is doing well across seas after it was released last year, then came his supposed retirement that led him to switch to Hip hop full time.

?Peaches?, his single with international Hip hop artiste Sway has sneaked its way into the UK underground and doing magic for Reggie.

So well, it might not be a defining moment per se but it certainly adds up to the party buzz.

Yeah-party buzz- Reggie turned forty-something last Wednesday. Being the man that he is, full disclosure was certainly out of the question for those moments.

The party started with a small gathering of Reggie?s close buddies and a few groupies looking for their minutes of fame.

?Living the Hiplife? documentary was playing on the plasma screen and Reggie would periodically throw up a sign to a well- wisher at the other end of the room and go back to flirting openly with his wife.

About 30 minutes later troops of music heads walk in, digital cameras flashing as if on cue, somebody grabs the Dj?s mic and the script is flipped.

Dj Morris and Dre work magic on the turntables, constantly squeezing in flawless mixes and dogging the dance floor with an entire musical experience.

Accra?s new free style empress, Sena Dagadu came off getting the crowd into the music while she dug for cheeky hooks on a bouncy funk beat, Karaoke specialist Denise also got her shine a little after.

Kochoko also added his own twist the music fiesta, morphing the party into a mini open mic session.

Reggie just watched from his section, dusting off imaginary smoke ash from his white suit.

There?s was enough tequila and vodka to go around and it was great watching everybody drown in a wonderful state of inebriation, celebrating the life of a great legend who hasn?t shown any sign of wearing out.
