Legendary Afro-rock band, Osibisa, is in Cape Town, South Africa for this year's North Sea Jazz Festival. Osibisa is billed to close the three-day festival on Saturday, March 29. The band will also play at a private function in Johannesburg the next day.
In an interview with the press before leaving Accra to join colleagues in South Africa, trumpeter Mac Tontoh said it has almost become established on the international festival circuit that whenever Osibisa is around, it has to be the closing act.
"We generate so much excitement that people want to keep that ringing in their heads for sometime after the festival," Mac added.
Musicians teaming up with Teddy Osei, Sol Amarfio and Mac Tontoh for the South African shows include guitarist Kari Bannerman, bassist Greg Brown and Keyboards player Emmanuel Rentzos.
The last time Osibisa was in South Africa in the mid-1980s when it ran a series of workshops in several high schools.
Other international artists featuring at this year's North Sea Jazz Festival include Isaac Hayes and radical saxophonist Archie Shepp.
