Renowned music producer Nana Yaw Nkrumah known by many as Dr. Ray has given a clear distinction of the good, bad and the ugly of the Ghanaian music industry.

The ace music producer listed a lot of issues contributing to the fall and progress of the Ghanaian music industry. In a chat with Flex newspaper, DR. RAY revealed that, there are few problems which the music industry is facing but he thinks Ghana’s music industry is now growing very well, because we are now being recognized on the world map as a music country.

“Our musicians are now getting nominations when it comes to international awards, though not many as we expect, we are still trying our best to reach the top in the music industry both in Africa and the world at large,” he said. He added that one thing which seems to be pulling the industry backwards is the fact that musicians are not united and always fighting for the downfall of their fellow colleagues which will not help the growth of the industry.

“Musicians must come together to support whoever is being nominated at the world stage for an award because, that is the best way to help the artiste to win awards and also push our music industry forward and through that get more nominations and awards from the international stage else, we will still be in same position as an industry,” he added.

Dr. Ray also called on Ghanaian musicians to do quality music videos which can be played on international television channels for good promotions. This to him can earn them some awards and brighten the image of our industry. He stated that our musicians must brand themselves very well for international appeal and attract corporate bodies to support them.

The music producer called on investors and corporate bodies to invest in the music industry and in the musicians which will help them to do good music videos to meet international standards and improve the music industry as a whole. He also asked Ghanaian DJ’s to play more Ghanaian songs which will fill their content because it is also one key factor which can promote Ghanaian music to the world and project the music industry in Ghana as a whole.
