Accra, May 23, GNA - Master Joshua Addai Namii of Presibyterian Secondary School, Legon on Sunday won the ECOWAS 30th Anniversary Celebrations National Quiz contest.
The quiz, which was organized by the Ministry of Regional Integration and New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Sports (MOES) to mark the 30th Anniversary of the sub-regional body, saw Master Kwabena Boamah of Prempeh College, Kumasi emerging as the first runner-up and George Osei Owusu of St Agustine's College as the second runner-up. Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, Minister of Regional Cooperation and NEPAD, said ECOWAS urged the youths to be involved in the activities that would aid national and economic development.
He said Ghana was fully committed to the ideals and objectives of the sub-regional body and would continue to champion them. Dr Apraku said ECOWAS had achieved a lot in the areas of peace; stability; economic and regional cooperation and appealed to staff and administrators of schools to include the teaching of international organizations such as ECOWAS, African Union (AU), United Nations and other organisation in the curricula.
Other contestants were Master Raphael and Salifu Adarn of St Augustine's College and Ghana Secondary, Tamale, respectively and Ms Sanfina Pwanmang from the Bolgatanga Girls School, Bolgatanga. Present at the ceremony included Mr Micheal Nsowah, Acting Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Mr James Ebenazer Quashie, Acting Chief Director of MOESi and Mrs Irene Maamah, Director of ECOWAS Division of the Ministry of Regional Integration. The ECOWAS Quiz Competition was held across member countries in the Sub Region.
