Ghanaian singer and rapper Kofi Kinaata has said late legendary musician Paapa Yankson deserves a state burial due to his massive contributions to the music industry in Ghana.

According to him, a state burial for Yankson will also motivate other musicians to put in much effort to uplift the image of the country through their music.

Mr Yankson died in his home in Accra on July 21.

Speaking in an interview with Prince Benjamin, host of the Class Drive on Class 91.3FM, Kofi Kinaata said the ‘Tena Me Nkyen’ hit maker had done so much for the country with his music and also served as a mentor for most promising artistes, a situation that demands that he be given a national burial.

“He was a role model and a mentor, his sounds were the only sounds that we were listening to in Takoradi. I see him as a father. After the 2017 VGMAs I went to his house and he gave me a whole lot of advice.”

“Since his demise, I have also gone to the house to greet the family and I will say again that my condolences to the family.

“I agree that he should be given a state burial, that won’t be bad at all, it is a nice idea that will even boost our morale especially the young ones. That will mean when you live up to expectation you will be recognised.”
