The identity of the young boy alleged to have attempted defrauding a US-based Ghanaian under the guise of Asamoah Gyan on Facebook has been revealed.
Massud Walid Iddrissu is currently in custody of the Accra Regional Police for using a fake Facebook account of Asamoah Gyan to fraudulently acquire money from unsuspecting persons.
The 21-year-old was arrested by Lance Corporal Tijani Adam within the premises of a bank where he had gone to take delivery of a 'supposed' amount of money sent to him by his friend on Facebook.
The Police were hinted of Iddrissu's attempt following enquiries made by the US-based Ghanaian to the Accra office of the Al Ain ace.
The accused, a diploma graduate of Meridian Pre-University was directed to a bank in Accra to retrieve Ghc20,000 supposedly sent by his Facebook friend little did he know he was getting into an ambush.
The Tema-based accused is currently in custody of the Accra Regional Police and is being processed for prosecution.
Walid Iddrissu will be the second person to be persecuted in an alleged cyber crime offence under false pretense.
Asamoah Gyan has repeatedly dismissed claims of having a Facebook account.
The Black Stars captain will, therefore like to take the opportunity to state once again that he does not have a social media account – including a fan page – on Facebook.
