Ghana’s former Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, woke up to his birthday today to a surprise crowd of well-wishers who serenaded and praised him for his inimitable leadership. A crowd of about 50 people led by Starr 103.5 FM CEO Kwabena Anokye Adisi (Bola Ray) together with the indefatigable Winneba Youth Choir, who gathered at the former Bank of Ghana governor’s residence as early as 5am, woke him up to a beautiful morning of psalms and hymns. “I never saw this coming. And I can’t believe you brought the choir all the way from Winneba to sing for me,” said the ex-minister who was flanked by his wife, children, grandchildren, close family friends and well-wishers from the Accra-based radio station. Toasting to “a longer life” and “more grandchildren”, daughter Kakra Duffuor said her father’s influence on the lives of his children and those around him is remarkable and exemplary. “You have been a pillar to some of us and we say you deserve more than we have given you this morning. God bless you papa. Happy, Happy birthday from Starr FM to you!” said Bola Ray. The financial mogul together with his wife danced almost all through the surprise ceremony which lasted about two hours as the popular youth choir performed some inspirational Ghanaian songs. Also there to sing some of Dr. Duffuor's favorite gospel song was Lydia Yawson of Tagoe Sisters fame.
