Photos: NAFAC 2014 opens in Sunyani

The National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFAC) 2014 was inaugurated at the Jubilee Park in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region over the weekend to showcase Ghanaian culture customs and tradition. The opening ceremony witnessed several cultural performances from the various regions in the country and a display of assemble of chiefs in their full regalia. President John Mahama, as the special guest of honour, in his speech at the ceremony called for reflection on the erosion of cultural norms of Ghanaian society. He bemoaned what he described as the breakdown of some Ghanaian values which were impacting society negatively; adding that it is about time the country packaged and promoted its unique culture globally. The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, announced the rehabilitation of the region’s cultural theatre which is fast deteriorating, and called for more media attention for culture and creative arts, underscoring its economic boosting potentials.
