The New York picnic, the mother of all picnics has always been a success in terms of its content for many years. NCOGA, the organizers of the picnic can now boast of being the only Ghanaian powerhouse organization in America, attributed to the success of future superstars through the picnic, the only biggest Ghanaian outdoor event in America showcasing talents. Among the stars emerging are; Akwadaa, Nana Frema, Steve Kelly, Ded Buddy, Tony, Kilanova, Miss D, Ahenfie Nkwadaa and others.
Another interesting story worth sharing is that four years ago, a young man named; Abraham Kwaku Lincoln aka Papa Linc, was offered the microphone as a replacement to an official MC who could not make it to the picnic. Lincoln was impressive with his jokes and delivery. The comedian has since become the official Master of Ceremonies of the mother of all picnics for 4 years in a row. He is now one of the most sought after MCs to host events in New York.
This year's picnic held at the same location in Orange County, showed VIP, Hiplife supergroup performing for the first time. The group gave an incredible performance never been witnessed at the picnic. The attendance was low compared to a year ago. The low attendance was due to many people complaining that the venue was too far and yet there were many people who also came.
The 2006 picnic also showed one star; Ded Buddy giving an impressive performance from his latest effort worth having at a CD library. The young man famous for his ballad; "Serwaa Akoto" has taken his time to bring out an interesting CD and he deserves a huge round of applause for working harder and taking his career to another level. His buddy, Tony also did great.
Steve Kelly, R&B/Gospel Hip-Hop artist from Philly also made it his mission to take the gospel to the streets. He performed two great tracks and the audience could not asked for more. Isaac Abeidoo, VIP's manager and CEO of Goodies Productions who was among the audience became impressed with his performance. He said he had known Steve for a long time but did not know that he was a great musician. He has decided to work with Steve for future events. Watch out for G-Records and Goodies collaboration.
Earlier, Jamasi born and Bronx raised Akwadaa showed why he is a genius and a great entertainer. He is about to collaborate with VIP on a future project. Akwadaa is a down to earth and interesting young man who has patience because he knows superstardom is getting closer and closer.
After their great performance, the members of VIP were asked by this writer; what they felt about the picnic. Lazy said it was a great event, he was happy with his group's performance. He mentioned that people should support Hip-life for its longevity. Promxy who was very tired and wanted to go and have a rest said simply; "it was dope". Prodigy said he was happy to perform and the audience was lovely. The group took the opportunity to express their sincere thanks to all helping them immensely during their stay in New York.
Big Shouts to Boogie Down Nima Productions for the supervision of the show. Hashim Haruna, DJ Ronnie, Sam Q and MC Papa Linc worked together as a team. Among the audience were also; Daughters of Glorious Jesus who are currently in New York to promote their latest CD, leaders of the Living Bread and Resurrection Power, Elder and Pastor Maison of Ebenezer World Outreach Church. There were many giveaways by sponsors including Moneygram, Western Union and Vigo.
A big round of applause goes to the organizers of the picnic, NCOGA who have created a great concept for future superstars and upcoming talents who will forever be grateful.
