Place a bounty on Wisa’s head – Ampaw

Lawyer Maurice Ampaw Lawyer Maurice Ampaw

Popular Ghanaian lawyer Maurice Ampaw has said the police should place a bounty on the head of popular hiplife artiste Wisa following his failure to show up in court

Wisa, known in private life as Eugene Ashie, has on multiple occasions not appeared before an Accra court, where he is standing trial for allegedly revealing his manhood during a live performance on December 24, 2015 during the Decemba2Rememba event at the Accra International Conference Centre.

A bench warrant has been issued thrice for his arrest but according to the police, efforts to find the singer have proved futile.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with DJ Premier, host of Entertainment Capital on Accra100.5FM, Mr Ampaw bemoaned the conduct of the official of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) handling the case and said a bounty should be placed on Wisa’s head.

“If it is true Wisa is walking around performing at concerts then the CID official has failed the nation and the court because the court issued a bench warrant and the CID official must go in and arrest Wisa no matter the day… A bench warrant means it is the court or the judge that is looking for Wisa and not the police, so I think wherever Wisa is, we must look for him. By this time the police should even place a bounty on his head for the public to assist the police in arresting him to appear before the court,” he stated.

Mr Ampaw said the CID officer in charge of the case must also be closely monitored to make sure he has not been compromised.

“It is in the interests of the police and the CID that they work hard. We must also monitor the CID official... it could be that he has spotted Wisa but has turned a blind eye, else what is stopping him from arresting him? So that is an issue that has to be investigated. The Director of the CID must be interested in this issue.”

Mr Apaw also suggested that whoever stood surety for Wisa should be arrested and made to appear before the court to produce the accused.

“When you are after a suspect and can’t locate him, when he was given a bail there was surety, so quickly you go to court and file the process to restrict the bail bond. So, the surety must be processed before the court and given a timeline to produce Wisa or he pays the bail sum and you declare Wisa wanted,” he stated.
