Abrakaso (Ash), Oct 15, GNA- The Agona police in the Afigya-Sekyere District on Monday clubbed to death, a 'jujuman' who inflicted cutlass wounds on a police constable.
The police had a hectic time trying to arrest the man believed to be a Konkomba and in the process four people, including two policemen, received gun shot wounds from stray bullets fired by the police. The deceased whose name was not immediately known was brought to Abrakaso by someone to make 'juju' for people but took to threatening to kill anyone who challenged him.
The injured were identified as Police Constable Akonnor, Detective Inspector Nuamah, Kwabena Apiadu, 28, and Kwabena Bonsu, 30, both businessmen.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency, Chief Superintendent of Police Kwaku Ayesu Opare-Addo, the Asante-Mampong Divisional Police Commander, said one Mr Alex Opoku, a unit committee chairman for Abrakaso, reported to the Agona police that a Konkomba man brandishing two sharp cutlasses had entered the room of one Kwasi Owusu and threatened to "butcher anyone who stood in his way".
He said three policemen were detailed from Agona to go and invite the deceased to the police station but the policemen returned with a report that the situation was dangerous and needed re-enforcement. Chief Superintendent Opare-Addo said Detective Inspector Nuamah and six additional policemen were dispatched to the scene. He said when the deceased saw the policemen he dared them not to enter the room and this forced the police to fire tear gas into the room.
The man came out through a window moved towards Constable Akonnor. The constable fired a warning shot but this did not scare him as he moved forward and inflicted cutlass wounds on the left arm and head of the policeman.
He said the police, in a bid to save the life of their colleague, opened fire on the deceased but he survived all the shots.
''The policemen adopted a new strategy and captured him from behind and clubbed him down and died in the process.''
Constable Akonnor is on admission at the Agona Government Hospital and Kwabena Appiadu has been transferred to the Mampong Government Hospital.
Detective Inspector Nuamah and Kwabena Bonsu were treated and discharged.
